Dr. Steven Narod is a Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public at the University of Toronto, Director of the Familial Breast Cancer Research Unit at the Women’s College Research Institute, and a Tier I Canada Research Chair in Breast Cancer. His research interests include investigating the role of risk factors associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, studying the role of BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations in ovarian cancer, and investigating new treatments for hereditary cancer. His goal is to translate emerging knowledge on hereditary cancers into more effective strategies for the prevention and management of breast and ovarian cancers. In addition, he is working on delineating the gene/environment interactions that may underlie hereditary breast cancer in the identification of potential modifiers of high-risk cancers. He was named as the most-cited scientist in the field of breast cancer research in 2005. Dr. Narod will be sharing his recent findings in Symposium II: Etiology and Prevention - Cells of Origin and Stem Cells.
